PFAS Water Contamination Lawyers

Environmental Contamination Attorneys Serving Municipal Governments Nationwide in Water Toxin Litigation

The ability for communities throughout the country to provide safe drinking water is at risk from a number of harmful chemicals. One class of chemicals that poses a significant threat is perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (collectively known as PFAS).

The team at Ventura Law has extensive experience representing governmental and municipal agencies in environmental contamination litigation. For a free consultation, please call (203) 800-8000 today. Our law firm has offices in Connecticut and New York, and we serve municipalities throughout the United States.

What Are PFAS?

PFAS are used to manufacture an extensive range of products in a wide variety of industries, from fast food containers to household cleansers. One of the major sources of PFAS contamination is the use of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) at airports, military installations, and academies for firefighter training.

The runoff from these facilities can introduce AFFF into the groundwater, which then contaminates local water sources with PFAS. Runoff may also occur from manufacturing plants that produce PFAS, presenting a similar risk to the local community.

Why Are PFAS Dangerous?

PFAS are sometimes known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in water, soil, or the human body. As a result, exposure to PFAS is cumulative, with the risk of negative health effects growing over time.

Some of the serious health impacts that may result from long-term PFAS exposure include:

  • Kidney cancer
  • Bladder cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Thyroid disease
  • Hormone disorders
  • Disorders of the immune system
  • Low birth weights
  • Developmental problems in children

Research into the risks of PFAS exposure is ongoing. However, as more and more information emerges about PFAS, concerns among community members and local officials continue to grow.

How Ventura Law Can Help

When companies manufacture products using PFAS and carelessly dispose of hazardous chemicals, the contamination can affect the drinking water for residents in multiple nearby communities. Local governments face enormous burdens in order to address PFAS water contamination, including retrofitting water treatment plants to filter PFAS and revising standards for safe drinking water.

The legal team at Ventura Law is currently investigating cases of PFAS water contamination on behalf of municipalities throughout the country. Our team provides confidential water testing to municipalities, advises how to proceed when PFAS contamination is found, and litigates against companies whose products and disposal practices introduce toxic chemicals into the local environment. We meet with municipal leaders and hire investigators and scientific experts to assess the financial cost and other damages from environmental contamination.

We take these cases on a contingency basis. Municipalities have no out-of-pocket expenses and pay nothing unless and until Ventura Law secures a favorable result on their behalf.

Ventura Law has extensive experience representing government entities in complex municipal litigation. Our team previously represented the governments of communities on the Gulf of Mexico for losses sustained in the BP oil spill.
