Helping someone is worth more than a dollar bill in your pocket.
-Americo S. Ventura Ventura Law FounderOver six decades ago, a young man named Americo S. Ventura boarded a boat from Portugal. He arrived in Danbury with a simple conviction: “Helping someone is worth more than a dollar bill in your pocket.”
Homesick but rooted in compassion, he learned English at night, served in the U.S. Army, then graduated from Georgetown University and Boston University School of Law—launching his practice in 1957.
What followed was not just the founding of a firm, but the birth of a mission.
Americo, who quickly became affectionately known as “Mr. V,” was a fixture in the legal and immigrant community, known for his integrity, humility, and devotion to others. He flourished as Danbury’s Chief Prosecutor, but his vision for justice was even broader. He was a trailblazer who believed a diverse team could best serve a diverse community.
In 1957, he partnered with Dianne Andersen, the first female lawyer in Danbury.
He later hired Connecticut Court of Appeals Judge Thomas G. West, who became Danbury’s first African American attorney.
Americo created a legacy of inclusion before it was popular, ensuring that all voices were represented and that all people had access to justice.

Americo held tightly to principles that became the bedrock of Ventura Law. He believed success was measured not by verdicts, but by lives restored with dignity.
“You don’t have to be the best lawyer—but you do have to be the most honest.”
This philosophy guided his every action. His daughter later shared, “What really made him tick was helping other people… he would never retire because he wanted to be out there working with the people he loved.” His work wasn’t a job—it was his purpose.

These testimonials do more than praise skill—they honor a legacy of unwavering kindness and humanity.
While he never sought accolades, Americo’s immense contributions did not go unnoticed. He was a fighter for the causes and people he believed in, and the community he served recognized his unwavering dedication.
He was honored for 60+ years of service by both the Danbury Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association.
He received numerous recognitions and proclamations from the City of Danbury and the United States Senate for his extensive pro bono and immigrant advocacy.
Danbury’s mayor called him “an icon… someone I valued as a friend.”
Americo’s greatest impact was perhaps felt in his commitment to lifting others up. He was a role model and counselor to thousands, always encouraging others to pursue higher education and professional development.
His belief in empowering the next generation was so strong that he started the Americo S. Ventura Scholarship Fund. Today, Ventura Law is proud to carry on this mission. As a former Chief Prosecutor, Americo had a deep and abiding respect for law enforcement.
To honor that, the scholarship is dedicated to supporting the children of Connecticut’s dedicated police officers as they pursue their educational dreams. This commitment to giving back is not just a memory; it is a living, breathing part of our firm’s identity, as featured by the Associated Press.
His legacy also lives on in our community partnerships, from sponsoring cultural festivals that celebrate identity and belonging.
In 2016, our firm was proudly rebranded to Ventura Law to forever honor the legacy of the man who embodied everything we strive to be. His spirit is woven into the fabric of our firm.
He cared. He listened. He counseled.
Today, we carry on this legacy by continuing to serve our clients and the community with the same zeal and compassion Americo stood for. His belief in diversity is reflected in our team, which comes from 13 different countries, with three-quarters of our staff speaking Spanish, Portuguese, or both.
The story of Americo S. Ventura is the story of Ventura Law. It is a story of hope, service, and an unwavering belief that every person deserves justice, dignity, and a powerful advocate in their corner.
